Red fort is an historical fort situated in old Delhi city of India. The fort was built in 1648 by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. Construction of the fort was started in 1638 and completed in 1648. Red fort (Lal Qila) was the capital head quarter of Mughal Emperors till to 1857. The fort was under controlled by British army in 1857 when last Mughal emperor Buhadur Shah Zafar was defeated by the British army. The fort lies along the Yamuna River, which fed the moats that surround most of the walls. The wall at its north-eastern corner is adjacent to an older fort, the Salimgarh Fort, a defense built by Islam Shah Suri in 1546.
